Human Factors Engineer
Job Description
The perfect candidate can perform both HFE and safety engineering.
Candidate will need JACK modeling experience
Experience on military programs is a key requirement – individuals without military program experience will be considered but it’s not preferred.
Position Summary:
The Human Factors Engineer is a key role within the engineering team, focused on the safe and efficient integration of our modern soldiers into the combat system in order to deliver the highest levels of performance for the Next Generation Combat Vehicle.
Job Responsibilities:
Human Factors Engineer (HFE) to conduct or direct JACK modeling using the ARL JACK boundary manikins to verify human design accommodation.
· Apply the human design criteria defined in MIL-STD-1472 to our combat vehicle designs.
· Identify human design issues and work with design engineers to obtain a satisfactory accommodation.
· Develop Human System Integration Program Plan (HSIPP) and Reports
· Lead the effort to execute the activities identified in the HSIPP
· Support and present at human factor reviews and soldier touch points to elicit soldier feedback
· Perform the system safety tasks as define in MIL-STD-882
· Identify safety design issues and work with design engineers to obtain a satisfactory accommodation.
· Prepare the System Safety Program Plan
· Lead the effort to execute the tasks in the System Safety Program Plan
· Identify the safety critical software requirements as part of the system safety program plan
Job Requirements:
Education:
· BSc Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Aerospace, Automotive) or equivalent work experience related to HFE and Safety
· MSc Engineering desired (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Computer, Management) desired
Experience:
· 10 years minimum experience in the application of human factor design criteria on military systems
· 10 years minimum experience in the application of safety design criteria on military systems
· Knowledge in Systems Engineering and related Standards/Processes
· Ability to present technical briefings to clients and internal stakeholders
· Familiarity with the ground vehicle requirements
· Knowledge of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development a plus
· Practical ‘hands on’ attitude with the ability to operate independently
· Currently holds or has the ability to obtain SECRET US Defense clearance desired
· Detailed knowledge of Military Standards and regulations desired
· Experience with engineering and supply chain management in a highly regulated industry
