Job Description:
  • As a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer for the Torpedo Systems Group (TSG), you will have extensive mechanical design skills and can manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization, while working with and providing guidance to a team of mechanical engineers.
  • You will lead a mechanical engineering team and work with cross functional teams responsible for designing, developing, demonstrating, producing, assembling, testing, and delivering torpedo guidance systems.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Lead and direct experienced engineers, lower-level engineers, and peer multi-disciplinary engineering leads
  • Manage engineering expertise to meet business objectives through the effective planning and execution of pursuits, and programs.
  • Research and analyse data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Research, plan, design, and provide guidance to other engineers for mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
  • Analyse, design and test products or systems such as mechanisms, controls, and mechanical, thermal, or heat transfer systems required to operate in challenging environmental conditions.
  • Plan and direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • Apply experience with ASME Y standards and generating detailed documentation of parts, assemblies and installations.
  • Create and maintain mechanical solid models and drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Perform engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.
  • Create and manage bills of material (BOM)
  • Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer team.
  • Communicate, both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical professionals at all levels

  • Experience in preparation of estimates for design tasks.
  • Detail-oriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers' designs and drawings.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to write technical papers and proposals
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others
